Reminder

This is your reminder that you should write today...if you're a writer that is.

Write On Wednesdeay

Back to quotes from famous authors, or did I just post these out of order. Oops. Anyway, the Great Gatsby says:

Bird Question

We saw a bunch of interesting birds when we went out to Brazos Bend State Park last weekend. Anyone know birds on here? What kind of a bird is this rainbow-colored one?

A Request For A Big Anniversary

On July 1st, 2008, Rish and I posted our very first installment of the Dunestef Audio Fiction Magazine. We've been through an awful lot since those days. Lots of ups and downs. Sometimes ups outnumber the downs, but not in Nottingham.

This summer will mark the 10th anniversary of that first podcast. It's hard to believe that so much time has passed. We've hit various milestones over the years, like 100 episodes and the like, but for the most part, we haven't done anything celebratory for any of those big accomplishments (wait, I think that might not be the right word. Is there a word for not giving up even though you totally should have?). But Rish had an idea that for our 10th anniversary, we could do some kind of an AMA episode. If you're not hip with the jargon, that stands for Ask Me Anything.

So, if you've ever wondered something about Big and Rish, about the Dunesteef, about that time when Rish took his pants off in front of Ryan Reynolds, or any other subject, throw it in an email to editor at dunesteef dot com, or reply in the comments, or put it on the forum, and we'll coagulate all those comments...wait I think that's the wrong word again, but eff it, I'm going with it...and we'll answer them on our big anniversary show. Thanks in advance for participating.

Pretty Fonts For Tuesday

I can't imagine how much longer this can go on. My nephew is clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel now, right? I mean the alternating fonts are enough to make you ill...but are they enough to make you write. You must write!

Also, am I crazy or is the text on this thing crooked slightly?

Write Says Rish

Today's meme is from Rish. He thinks we should write...or at least that I should.

Sunday, April 22, 2018

Your Sunday-Don't-Forget-To-Write

This one is for Mssr. Rish Outfield, because it's specifically about short stories, which he likes to say is what he writes. Although I couldn't tell you the last time he wrote something that wasn't at least a novelette. Anyhoo. Don't forget to write.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Meme!

Busy day. Did you know that former first lady Barbara Bush lived in Houston? Before I moved here, I didn't. Now that we've spent countless hours covering every facet of her death, I am very well aware.

That's a round about excuse for why the Saturday meme is arriving at 10pm instead of 10am as would be preferable.

More author quotes from my nephew. This time he's a slightly less respected author...at least by me.

Friday, April 20, 2018

Yay For Friday!

My nephew sent me a new entry in the famous author quotes. Here's the latest; this time it's Rolled Doll...damn autocorrect, Roald Dahl.

Anklecast 38: Splashdown

I went on a trip out to New Orleans. It was a nice vacation except for one big problem that I had...a little bit of an accident out on the bayou. Take a watch and hear the story.

To download the audio of the podcast, right click here, and save the file to your hard drive.

Twain For Thursday

Looks like my nephew is going with the quotes from great authors theme with the memes. So, here's your meme for Thursday. It's more of a how to write than a you should write meme, but at least it's got you thinking about writing. So, let's get a-writin'.

Almost Missed The Meme For Wednesday

I got about 15 minutes before it becomes Thursday. I forgot to post this meme before I left for work. So, here it is now. Hope you're writing...and if you're not, I hope you're doing something else that's just as awesome.

The Next Jedi

We had a panel show over on Marshal and Rish's Delusions of Grandeur podcast. They invited both Renee Chambliss and I on to discuss what might be next for the Star Wars franchise after The Last Jedi.

Subscribe to their podcast, and the episodes will be delivered to you automatically each time they come out. Also, you can listen to the episode by pushing the play button below.

Rish Meme For Tuesday

Rish and I recorded something for the Dunesteef last night, and this morning I've got a meme from the guy too. Pretty great.

I think he's got a Full House problem. First he wants to do a podcast dedicated to the show (which sadly would surely get more listeners than anything else we do), and not he's doing memes of Mary Kate and Ashley. Sheesh.

Monday Meme

Gotta write. I like this quote. Do it even if it sucks, because eventually it won't.

Sunday, April 15, 2018

Brazos Bend

Went to Brazos Bend State Park today with my son. They weren't joking when they advertised this place as having a bunch of alligators.

Meme Fer Sunday

Here we go. Just to encourage you to write even on Sunday.

I really like the positivity of this one. It's all about how being a writer is great, instead of whining about the hard work.

Flower Power

Went for a walk with the kid today. The wildflowers were out in full force.

No Weekends

It's Saturday, but writing every day never takes a day off. So, here's a new meme for encouragement.

Get Ready

Yesterday, I was telling my nephew how much I enjoy his memes. He thought I was being sarcastic, so I texted him a link to the blog here. A minute later, this was his response:

Get ready everybody, because this shit just got real. He's upping his game...or something.
Here's the first new meme of the upped game:

I guess I'll let you decide if his game has been upped or not. Then again, this meme could be left over from before. The upping could still be in the offing.

Anklecast Failure

I recorded a new Anklecast today. I had to record it on my phone, but when I turned off the recording the phone camera app said it had disabled the flash until the phone cooled down.

Then, a while later, after the phone was cool, I tried to review the recording. There was a thumbnail for it, but when I clicked, it wouldn’t load. Now there’s not even a thumbnail anymore.

I think the file must have gotten corrupted because of the heat. I’ll check it on my computer when I get home tonight, but I’m guessing it’s probably completely lost. The hot sun shining in through the windshield was too much.

Maybe I need to do all my Anklecasts at night instead. I guess I could try that on my way home tonight.

Yes, I'm Six

I know it's really immature to enjoy and appreciate things like this, but I can't help it. I am immature. I wrote a post about a sign that I found vandalized in Hermann Park a few months ago that made me chuckle. Now I came across another one.

This is a scrap metal recycling yard near my house. Someone got themselves a can of red paint, and altered the sign on the outside wall.

Snicker.

Missed Some Memes

Sorry, I missed a few days of memes there. My nephew's stash ran out, so he just sent me plain old texts for the last few days.

But now he's back, and better than ever! Here's today's meme.

I think this meme might be more about talking rather than writing, but it still works. Sometimes it's really hard to get any writing done with kids. That's why I usually write late at night when they're all asleep.

Unknowing Meme

I thought it was very funny when my nephew sent me this writing meme. It's like he doesn't know me at all. Has he ever read any of my stories?

Meme For Sunday

Here's one from Neil Gai-meme.

Meme Mama Jama

Oops, the days almost over. Shoulda sent this out sooner. Hope you wrote, but if you didn't, better get to it.

You don't want to end up like Vladimir here, freaking out when the deadline arrives.

Meme-ingless

Here's a new one from my nephew. Keep calm and...wait, don't keep calm. Panic!

Thursday, April 5, 2018

Meme-ingful

Rish Outfield is back again to try to encourage me to write. This one is pretty personal, but you could substitute your name in, and it'll should get your but in your seat to write and prove to Batman that it was completely uncalled for to slap Robin over something so obvious.

Of course Big will write today.

MotD Just Under The Wire

I forgot to post my meme of the day this morning, but it's still the 4th, so here it is:

Opener

It was the Houston Astros home opener yesterday. This was their first home game since winning the World Series last October...er, I think it was actually November. Anyway, they were giving out their championship rings and putting up the championship banner at the stadium and all that. So, it was kind of a big deal.

Having a winning sports team in town helps generate some revenue for TV stations a bit (though not nearly as much as those who want you to buy them a new stadium with their taxes want you to think), so my station decided that we would do an opening day party for the staff, and they wanted us to wear our favorite Astros gear. Here's what I wore:

Sorry, my selfie skills suck.

Now, you might be asking yourself what the hell this Marvel Comics shirt has to do with the Astros. Well, tell me there isn't a likeness to this awesome throwback:

The Most Interesting Meme In The World

Here's a meme for today that is so very true:

Wait, while that's funny, it's not particularly encouraging for writing. So, let's give our friend the Dos Equis schill a chance to actually encourage you:

All right. I guess that wasn't terrible. Stay writing, my friends.

The Return Of The Memes

Rish Outfield enjoyed the memes that I shared with him so much that he had to throw his own hat in the ring. As you might have guessed, he chose a Star Wars meme as the first one he would create. Behold today's get writing meme by Rish McDiarmid Outfield.

Texas Hunt

We went to an Easter egg hunt this Saturday morning here in Houston. It was a much bigger deal than the one we had in our little suburban town that we'd come from. There, they only had an egg hunt. You had to be there on time, because they would have the firetruck blow the horn, and everyone would converge on the eggs, vacuuming them all up until there was nothing. Then everyone went home.

Here, they had a similar egg hunt, but there were dozens of other activities on top of that. There was free popcorn and snowcones, face painting, balloon animals, bouncy houses, a thing they called bubble soccer:

Though they never bothered with the soccer part, they just had the kids run around and bash into each other in the bubbles...

Then the particularly Texan thing they had, a mechanical bull for the kids to ride:

They also had a tiny little baby bouncy house there:

I thought that was pretty cute.

They had food trucks there for anyone who wanted some food. I thought it was particularly funny the name of this truck:

Because this whole event was put on by a local church.
