Dealing With A Crazy Schedule For A Month | Carnivore | Week 85, 86 & 87 Roundup

In my last video, I had to deal with a week long trip out of town for my stepmother's funeral. That was only a week after Christmas. Now, one week after the funeral, I also had a trip to Italy planned. Things just got out of hand this past month. How did I deal with it? Did I fall apart? Or was I able to keep myself under control? Something in between?

The Sardine Fast Gets Subverted | Carnivore | Week 83 & 84 Roundup

I started out the week with a sardine fast. It was difficult, but I got some good results. Then came news I wasn't expecting. Things had changed significantly, and this week's report suddenly became a two-week report.

Losing It, Slipping Under. Gotta Make A Change | Carnivore | Week 82 Roundup

I used dairy products as a crutch to get past a craving last week, but now it's coming back to bite me. I have no off switch when it comes to dairy, and so this whole week, I let it run amok. I gotta do something to get myself back under control...

Hanging On By A Thread At Christmas | Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Week 81 Roundup

It's the week before Christmas, and temptations abound. Normally, I don't have much of an issue with that kind of thing, but something shifted inside me this week, and I worried that I might blow it. The tactic that I took to fight it was unorthodox, and it made the rest of the week a continued struggle. To hear the story, hit play and watch the week unfold...

Will Fasting Raise My Ketones? | Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Week 80 Roundup

Last week, I tried to get my ketones up by eating my TDEE each day. It wasn't terrible, but it still had problems. This week, I was determined to get that good DBR, so I opted for some more heavy fasting. Did that get the ketones to the level I was after? Or do I still have to do more?

What If I Eat My TDEE for a Week? Will That Beat the Plateau | Lion Diet Carnivore | Week 79 Roundup

I've been stuck on a plateau for a pretty long time, and I thought I'd try something new this week to see if I couldn't get myself off it and headed down to my eventual goal again. My plan? I calculated my TDEE (that's Total Daily Energry Expenditure) and ate that amount of calories each day to see if it would get me going again. Well, how did it go? I guess you gotta watch to find out.

Thanksgiving Week, Trying To Succeed| Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Week 78 Roundup

This was what could be a troublesome week, especially coming after a week of being sick. It was Thanksgiving, which can be a big pitfall for many people. How did it go? Did my eating improve? Did my ketones get better?

Trying Hard and Then I Get Sick | Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Week 77 Roundup

It's week one of being intentional, really trying, making this the most important thing for me. I want to make it to my goal, but the universe had something else in store for me. Before the week went far, I came down sick. What now? Can anything be done while trying to recover from a cold?

A Restart, Time To Be Intentional | Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Week 76 Roundup

I had an absolutely terrible week filled with nothing but missteps. I decided to change up my video this week, skip the reports of my daily failures, and instead reexamine my process and change it up in a way that will hopefully produce results. I've been floating along for too long. Time to get out the oars and start rowing. I'm going to be intentional about this from here on out, until we meet in One-derland.

Fat Squirrel Week

Have you ever heard of Fat Bear Week? It's this thing they've been doing for a few years, where the bears of Katmai National Park in Alaska get photographed as they're in the process of packing on pounds for their winter hibernation. They put photos of the bears up against each other, and people vote on which bear has done the best job getting fat to prepare for the winter.

Well, I've been out walking on our greenbelt trails recently, and I've noticed that the squirrels are trying to participate in this game as well. Each and every squirrel is really doing its best to prepare for winter. I see them all the time, and they're not usually this huge. These guys are all ready for winter to come.

I tried to get a picture of one to demonstrate, but the squirrels don't really want to sit still around a human, so this is the best I could get.

It's not a great angle to demonstrate the chub. You may be able to see some at the upper arms there, but that's the best it gets.

I think it's kind of funny, because most animals have this fatten up for winter instinct. We humans have it too. We used to need a big belly full of fat to make it through the winter, so we would pig out every fall to fatten up. Ever wonder why all the food holidays are lined up one after another in the fall?

Of course, these days, seasons don't mean anything to us. You can eat a banana in America...a country where bananas don't really grow...at any time of the year, fall, spring, winter, or summer. No need to fatten up for the winter, since food is readily available any time. Sadly, we all still have that instinct, so we usually fatten up in the fall anyway...then keep fattening in the winter and so forth.

I'm excited about this winter, because it's the first time I've had two winters in a row that I can fit the sweaters that I bought back when I was skinny, but never wore much, because I got fat. Wish me luck that I can keep that going, and avoid the instinct to fatten myself for winter, and I'll wish you luck as well.

Did I Really Get It Together? | Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Week 75 Roundup

I said I was going to be really good, bear down, and apply myself at the end of last week's show. Did I really do that? Did I do the baselining? Did I get to eating right? Or did I just eat a bunch of cheese and give myself serious digestive issues? Could it be both?

Still Losing? Or Stalled Out? | Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Week 74 Roundup

I've had several good weeks in a row. How long can that go on for? Can it keep progressing at this breakneck speed or does a person's body have to stop to take a breath. Well, watch the show and see how it went.

My Birthday Week, Did I Blow It? | Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Week 73 Roundup

Another week trying to maintain a positive attitude, and I did pretty good, I think, but Sunday was my birthday. Could I handle that? Or would I give in and go crazy eating cake and candy and other garbage? Could I handle it? On top of that, it was a generally depressing day. Who wants to get older? Particularly, who wants to have a landmark birthday like their 50th? Did the depressive nature of the day get to me? Watch the show and find out.

Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Can I Keep A Good Attitude? | Week 72 Roundup

Last week, despite having a bad week, I realized that I needed to change my outlook. I was becoming complacent and forgetting about all the advantages that doing the carnivore diet has brought me, like being healthy enough to try a rope swing, for example. Beyond that, I figured that it would help me make progress as well. Could I manage though? We all know that it's one thing to say you want to do something and completely another to actually do it. Watch the video and see how it went.

A Trip To The Hill Country

This past weekend, we took a trip out to Garner State Park along the banks of the Frio River in the Texas Hill Country west of San Antonio. We went here once before back in 2021, and the family liked it so much that they requested a return trip.

We did pretty much the same things as we did last time, though I did have my daughter who was off at college last time we went here with us this time, so it was all new to her. We camped in the same area.

We tubed down the river from the same spot.

The only real difference is that I am willing to actually let a picture of me in my swimsuit be seen by anyone.

I've managed to get in decent shape and stay that way for more than a year. That's a first for me. I'm still nowhere close to being all the way there. I'm even thirty pounds heavier than I was back in May, and I'm trying to get back down to that level, but I'm doing okay, and I'm going to act like it for once.

Not only did I get a couple of pictures of me in a swimsuit, I even went on the rope swings that my kids went on. I think the last time I went on a rope swing, it was still the twentieth century, which was about the last time I weighed what I do now. So, there might be a little correlation there.

I was sitting in my tube, and using my phone to record the kids swinging on the rope, and when they finally figured they were ready to move on, I suddenly thought, "Why the hell am I just watching? That rope swing is nothing dangerous. I may be almost fifty years old, but that doesn't mean a damn thing in this case. I can swing on that as easily as anyone else."

I paddled over to the shore, climbed off, grabbed the rope and took a shot.

It was nothing crazy, but it was fun, and I think I did a good job. I took another shot using the other rope. I didn't do quite as well with that one.

I should have tried to get my knees up and wrapped around the knot so I could hold on better. My arms weren't enough to counteract the centrifugal force trying to fling me off, so I just plummeted when it got too strong. That's not the point, though. The point is that I tried it at all. I tried it, and I was just fine. Life is better because of what I've been doing for the past few years. I'm healthier and stronger, and I won't quit improving. No matter how much I feel like life could be a lot easier if I just did all the same BS that the average American does. I'm not going to.

Sorry, I was just going to talk about going on a fun trip, and it turned into some rant about why I gotta keep doing my own thing and give the middle finger to the world that wants me to quit. I didn't mean to go there. I guess it was just on my mind.

Hope your day was fun, and you're having a happy life. Carry on.

Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Another Hard Week, But Things Are Looking Up | Week 71 Roundup

This week was kind of a carbon copy of last week, but a little more so. The weekend involved a big camping trip, which meant I couldn't eat my normal stuff. Did it throw me for a loop? Or did I come out of it with a new attitude altogether?

Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | A Bad Attitude And A Bad Weekend | Week 70 Roundup

How much can a bad attitude combined with a weekend of travel away from home screw up my attempts at going to One-derland? Well, let's just say that neither one helped much, that's for sure.

Lion Diet Carnivore & Alternate Day Fasting | Does A Bad Monday Start A Tailspin? | Week 69 Roundup

I pigged out on cheese on Sunday, then did it more on Monday...what did that mean for the rest of the week? Was it just one endless tailspin or did I manage to get it together and keep from falling apart?
