The First Weekend Of Summer

It was the first weekend of the summer, and we did a lot of fun stuff. We could send the kids back to school again right now, and they'd have plenty to write about in their "what I did this summer" essays.

For example, my oldest son went camping twice. Once with his friends to a nearby reservoir to go fishing.

And a second time with the boy scouts to Goblin Valley in southern Utah.

My wife took the other kids to the community pool. One of my kids went to one of those trampoline places for a birthday party. While they waited, my wife took the other kids up the canyon to a waterfall just off the road for a picnic.

The next day, I took the a few of the other kids down to the river for some fishing. We didn't catch anything. I spent pretty much the entire time trying to untangle fishing lines that the kids had tangled up. That turned out not to be a whole lot of fun.

When I got home from our fishing debacle, all I wanted to do was go out back, and lay around in our hammock, enjoying the warm day and the cool breeze.

Monday afternoon, my wife went to the store and bought some barbecue fixings. We went out in the back yard and cooked up some hamburgers and hot dogs.

And yes, that one hot dog that is lighter than the rest was my daughter's vegetarian hot dog. She wanted to fit in with us...but not that much.

Then we spent the last of the holiday weekend sliding down our new slip 'n' slide that my wife picked up from the store.

What a weekend. And there's a lot more in store, from family reunions, to camping at some national parks, to vacations to Canada, we've got some plans. It's going to be a fun summer.
