Big Spider

I was in the backyard, messing with the pool sweeper yesterday when I saw this gnarly-looking monster.

It was a big boy...or girl, I suppose, I don't know how to tell the sex of a spider. But a large mofo, ya know?

Anybody ever seen a spider like this one? Is it a dangerous spider? Do I need to go kill it, so that it can't poison Little? Or should I just let it be since it's busy eating the bugs I'd rather not have around my yard, like the millions of mosquitoes that like to feast upon my flesh like vampires day in and day out?

Worrying About Stepping On The Scale - Day 56 - BBBE Challenge Daily Update

The scale and I have been enemies for a long time. We did have a short time in 2019 when we really saw eye-to-eye, but since then and before then, we haven't gotten along. I talk a little bit about how worried I am about continuing that negative relationship. How do you get NSVs to supersede or outweigh the scale defeats?

National Cinema Day

Yesterday was a pretty crazy day, as busy as it could have been, I worked outside, carried heavy things across a park, sweat like a dog, spent two hours in the heat trying to sell popcorn for the cub scouts outside of a grocery store, then got rained on by an absolute deluge while trying to carry those heavy things back across a park. To finish the day off, though, my wife bought tickets to see Top Gun: Maverick, because it was National Cinema Day.

I've never heard of National Cinema Day, and my guess is that it is a new thing that struggling movie theaters came up with in an attempt to get people to come back and watch movies again. It's a gimmick, and for the gimmick they offered everyone $3 tickets for any movie.

I edited a news story about it on Friday, but didn't even bother to mention it to my wife, because we don't go to movies anymore. We only work on the kitchen. She, however, saw a story about it somewhere else, and decided to get us tickets for yesterday evening.

It was a hellacious day, as busy as I can remember any weekend ever being, and truthfully, I would have preferred to just go home and go to bed and stay there for 48 hours, but I'm glad that I didn't. The movie was fun, and it was pretty nice to have a chance to blow off steam after an overfilled, draining, shitty day.

This may have been the best of all of those 40 years later sequels that nobody asked for, something that happens so often these days they could be considered a genre unto themselves. I was pretty happy with the show. So, a double success. I got out to a movie, and it was actually good.

A funny thing though, we bought four tickets at $3 but paid a total of $20. I think the movie theater jacked up their convenience fee to go with the lowering of the price. That's some nice eBay-like tactics on their part. Well played, Cinema Day. Well played.

I know shouldn't be something that a person gets excited about in this day and age, but holy crap it's so EXCITING!

We have sinks with running water coming out of them! And they don't leak or anything! I can't believe the day has finally arrived!

That's the kitchen sink. They also redid our bathroom for us!

The left hand sink in the bathroom has been broken for probably more than a year. It's so nice to have this stuff fixed and be able to use water whenever I need it.

Of course, I'm going to have to get used to it again. A few minutes ago, I got something on my hands, and I almost walked all the way to the bathroom to wash them off before I remembered that the kitchen sink worked again.

Aloha Dunesteef

Rish and I finished off the Dunesteef earlier this month. We brought it to an actual close after all of these many years. It was hard to do, but it finally seemed like the best course of action. The old girl deserved a decent burial rather than just withering away in a podfade graveyard.
