You're A Witcher, Henry!

I just finished saying that I didn't expect to find anything more to buy for myself at Ross this December, but I had some extra time the other day, so I stopped in, and Ross had new stuff I hadn't seen yet.

At the start of this year, I worked my way through the Witcher books, and I absolutely loved them. I looked on eBay and Amazon to see if I couldn't get my hands on some of the McFarlane figures of the Witcher. I was hoping to get Geralt, Dandelion, and Ciri if at all possible. They were the main characters that were available. I don't think McFarlane made a Yennefer figure, but I'd get that one too if they did.

Well, they were more expensive than I wanted to pay, so I kind of forgot about them. Then, wham! I walked into Ross, and the figures dropped into my lap. They had both Geralt and Dandelion, and each one was only $5.

Geralt comes with this hooded cape thing. It's hard to make it work without looking like he's wearing shitty doll clothes or something. You have to tie the string around his neck, and there's just no way to make a knot at human scale that doesn't look ridiculous at action figure scale. What I wound up doing was using Geralt's hair to pin the cloak down and just wrapped the ties in underneath rather than tying a knot.

It looks okay. There's always that trade off when it comes to capes and robes and cloaks with action figures. Do you want it to be poseable? Or do you want it to look like it scales with the figure correctly? Generally you can't have both. Which matters more to you?

Maybe it's just me, but Dandelion's lute seems a little small. I guess I live with it. These guys look pretty good. I'll keep an eye out to see if Ciri shows up, or even Roach. That would be pretty awesome. I'd be happy if I had to stay right where I am, and happy with any other addition I might get to make.

I need to start getting the books to put on my bookshelf though. That's the collection I've fallen behind on.

Six Months on Carnivore and Fasting | Before and After Photos | Journey to One-derland

Okay, it's been six months now, and what has doing carnivore and fasting gotten for me? I sit down to talk about it and share before and after videos and photos as well as progression from my weekly videos from day one to now.

Mr. Krabs

Taking a little break from the Christmas decorations, here is another acquisition that I made for my collection.

It's a four-inch-scale Avatar Crab Mech.

I haven't even seen the movie, but I really like this thing. I posted about getting the small-scale version of it months ago. It was on clearance, so I grabbed two of them. My plan is to paint them yellow, and make them look like some kind of construction equipment. The idea is that these things are the future equivalent of a front end loader or a bulldozer. This is what people use to fix up Ankletown station when something breaks.

So, I'll definitely do the same with this larger scale version of the toy. This one went on sale on Amazon, and I figured I should jump on it while I could. I missed my chance to get the Amp Suit. Those went on clearance at some point and sold out.

So I didn't want that to happen again. I managed to get one for less than half of its original price, and I have to say, it's really cool. This shot gives you an idea of the size. That's the four-inch scale Mantis figure from Guardians of the Galaxy next to the leg.

You can fit a figure inside the cockpit. In fact, it comes with two different openings. You can open a hatch on the top to climb in...

Which I suppose is how a real person would enter this contraption, but, of course, this is a toy, and the figure can't move on its own...at least until I get a cupboard and a magic key for it. So, I have to position the the figure with my hands, and they can't fit inside that hatch. I guess the hatch is just in case you want to take a picture like the one above.

If you want to actually position the figure at the controls, however, you can open the entire cockpit.

With that open, there's plenty of room to put the figure in. It's a weird cockpit though. There's enough space that the figure could sit down with its back against the back wall like a normal cockpit.

But the controls are out of reach if that's what you do. Instead, they're supposed to perch on a kind of kneeling seat-type thing and lean against the controls to take their spot.

Then you can close the window, and you can see the figure inside controlling the mech.

It looks pretty awesome, right?

The space for the figure is pretty small, though, so you can't just use any figure in there. A 5 POA figure could never sit in there, and bigger figures like the Halo ones I have will make it impossible to close the cockpit...unless maybe you really position them weirdly or something. I don't know, maybe if you stuck their legs back behind them or something weird like that they might fit.

Mantis is on the smaller side, so she fits great. I think any Star Wars Vintage Collection figure would probably fit, because they are 3.75 inch scale and not 4 inch scale or even 4.5 inch scale like some figures are.

I've got so many cool things to put into my space station now. I really need to get going on building the damn thing. I can't wait to pose this thing climbing up the side of a wall with a big metal panel in one hand and a rivet gun in the other as it goes to fix a problem in the building. That'll be pretty cool.

Outlander Ties

I've been to Ross a lot in the last month or so. At this time of year, they suddenly vastly expand the amount of toys they're offering for sale, so for a guy like me who is trying to build a toy collection on the cheap, it's a bonanza. 

However, there's only so many things they can add to their stock before I've seen it all, and there's nothing left, and I thought I had reached that point. The last few times I'd been back, I just looked for a few minutes, found that there was nothing new, and left. The toy jubilee was over, it seemed. The bonanza was done.

The last time I went, however, there was a new addition, and it made me excited. You know those ships that I've been collecting for my Ankletown Station? They're called Micro Galaxy Squadron, and the first wave of them had been going on clearance around town a few months back. Well, one of those ships that I'd almost never seen and certainly had never gone on clearance just showed up at Ross.

Those are Outland Tie Fighters. That's the Tie Fighter that Moff Gideon uses in The Mandalorian. At one point, he flies in on it, and the wings fold down so that he can get out of the pod when he lands.

They had those and their wings didn't have to be folded up, so they could appear as normal tie fighters as well.

They cost less than half what they have been asking for ships this size at Walmart and Target, so I jumped at the chance to buy all three of them that I could find.

Each one came with a little one inch tall figure of Moff Gideon.

He also comes with a cape that you can put over his shoulders, but he can't wear that while sitting in the tie fighter cockpit, because it's a stiff piece of plastic. Without the cape, however, he looks like he could be any old dude, so I think that's what I'll be doing with the other two. They'll just be random people standing around on Ankletown. Maybe I'll even paint them a different color so they look different.

Sadly, I think this may be the last new thing I find at Ross that interests me this year. I think they may have made it to the bottom of the barrel. Although, there are other ships in this size that they could offer. I'd love to get my hands on some more X-Wings, a scout walker or three, or that Jedi starfighter from Attack of the Clones that comes with the ring that makes the ship able to jump into hyperspace. I'd even buy that Asajj Ventress ship that they made that absolutely nobody wanted to buy...once. That one should be showing up at Ross sometime soon, I'd wager.

Wall O' Voodoo

Taking a little break from showing off what is on the Wall of Voodoo, I thought I'd mention that I put together another shelf divider for it.

That section was one big space until this week, when I finally decided it was time to finish it off. Once I did, I was displeased, however. I didn't like how the Sectaur beast's legs hung down and covered the GI Joes so that you couldn't see their faces. I even tried taking the picture from a lower angle, and it didn't work.

It's funny the things that will bug you when you do something like this. The beast, whose name is Battle-Beetle, just has an empty glove for its legs. You're supposed to put your hand in it to make it walk around and animate the legs. I can't do that on the shelf, of course, so I figured I would just stuff it with toilet paper to give it some shape. Now the legs were heavy enough to hang down and block the view of the other toys though. So, I got some barbecue skewers, and put them into the legs to make them stick up stiffly. Now it looks better.

Much better. Much better. No need to worry my OCD at all now.

It's exciting to have another shelf done. Now there's only the two very bottom shelves to finish.

I think I may see if I can't finish them up this month, and have this thing complete at last.
