Running Man

The sick is gone, and today I was finally able to get out and get running again.

And I really need to get on it too. I'm officially signed up for the half marathon in June. 13.1 miles, and the most I've ever run in my life is four. It's gonna take some work to get there.

Watch me go go go!

Anklecast 5

I've been sick, but I'm back! A new Anklecast for you, and I don't know if it will have the same effect for you, but after dictating this one, I felt rather inspired. Hopefully I can hold on to that feeling.

Ain't That The Way It Is?

Just last week, I told you all about how I was planning on running my first marathon this year. I went out and hit the streets, running two miles a day last Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. I ran one more time on Monday morning, and then, as life always seems to be, Wham! I got flattened by a mean cold.

Don't know how much it's going to affect my preparation. After all, it is pretty early in the process. I do know that colds tend to completely destroy a person's cardiovascular fitness though. One day, you could be cruising along easily through a ten mile run, then you get a cold, and the next time you run, you're huffing, puffing, and gasping and finally have to walk the last 250 yards of your one mile run.

I'm hoping I can pick up where I left off, especially since I only just started, and one week isn't a lot of time to build up any kind of stamina. I'm definitely not going to let it stop me though.

The Apple

I finished my lunch at the New Media Expo, and went to go to the bathroom. I left my camera at the table, expecting that Rish would keep an eye on it for me. Instead, he made this treatise on an apple. Enjoy the mind of Rish outfield on display.

It's funny, because we were talking about how one might be able to do the same kind of cheap scare that you get in horror movies when something jumps out at you when one is writing a short story or novel instead of a screenplay. We didn't come up with an answer, but we did get this movie out of it...

Marathon

Driving down the freeway this morning, I saw a billboard for a marathon that was coming up in June. A marathon has always been something I've wanted to participate in, but I've been afraid that I couldn't hack it.

Seeing this billboard got my adrenaline pumping like it hasn't ever done before for some reason, and by the time I got to work, I was ready to sign up. I talked to a co-worker who started training a few weeks ago for a June marathon, and he only made me more excited.

I called my sister, who has been running longer than me, and has already done a half-marathon, and was training for a full marathon when she hurt her foot last year, and asked her what she thought. She talked me down from the June ledge, suggesting a more prudent plan.

Since I haven't run much in the last two months, I needed a little more time to get into marathon shape. So, my sister suggested that we train for a half marathon in June, and then ramp up the training for the full marathon in September.

So, I looked up a local marathon that would be taking place in September, and we're set.

I am committed. It's been on my bucket list since I was in college, and this year I will achieve it.

I am running my first marathon on September 14th.
