The other day, Little and I were heading out for swim practice at the community pool. When we stepped out the back door to head to the car, I saw something move in the pool. It swam fast, and submerged itself all the way down to the bottom of the pool.
That's right, that turtle from my earlier post was back in the pool.
I guess it just didn't like our little pond much. This was the third time we'd found it in our pool now.
We didn't have time to deal with the turtle right then, though, because Little had to hurry to practice. So, I told him that when we got home he could jump in the pool and catch the turtle for me. Then we would take it to one of the many places around town where turtles are known to live.
When we got back, Little went over to the pool to jump in. He was excited to swim with a turtle...only the turtle was nowhere to be seen. It wasn't in the pool. Which was really weird, because there was no way it could get out. The sheer sides of the pool made that impossible.
Little guessed that it must have made its way into the filter intake areas. He jumped in, checked one, and found nothing, but in the next basket...
Yup, he was right. There it was.
The turtle had caught itself for us, so Little dried off, and got a shirt on. We drove over to a spot the locals call Turtle Bridge. They have tons and tons of turtles there.
I took this picture up on the bridge, just to show how many turtles populated the area, then we walked down to the side of the canal to put the turtle in its new home.
I'm pretty sure that this is the end of the story, now. The turtle is most definitely not getting back in the pool again after this. I guess that means that it will escalate to an even worse swimming reptile next time, right?

Relocating sophisticated yuppie urbanite turtles to wild areas doesn't always go so well, he'll miss his lattes and tofu street tacos and the sturdy homesteading turtles will mock him ruthlessly.
And rightly so. Someday, after giving up his citified ways, he might fit in. Michael J. Fox managed it, so why can't this turtle?
